The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has been named Best Federal MDA for Digital Transformation (2025/2026) at the 8th Nigeria E‑Government Summit and Awards, a result that spotlights how far the agency has moved from paper-based administration to fully digitised operations under executive vice chairman Khalil Suleiman Halilu.

The award, presented on 10 September 2026 in Lagos, saw NASENI top three federal nominees with 57.4 per cent of public votes, ahead of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC, 25.6 per cent) and the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS, 16.9 per cent).

The Summit convener, Lanre Ajayi said the outcome reflects a broader shift in citizen expectations of government service delivery, noting that 33,785 Nigerians voted in a process designed to prevent double voting.

He said NASENI’s win rests on concrete reforms rather than symbolism. Over the last three years, the agency has deployed an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system that integrates finance, procurement, human resources, project management, approvals and document management, while training hundreds of staff to run daily workflows electronically.

Speaking for Halilu at the awards dinner, director of Information, New Media and Protocol, Segun Ayeoyenikan said paper files have largely disappeared from NASENI offices as administration and core operations have been digitised to improve efficiency and productivity.

In his good will message on behalf of the EVC/CEO,  Ayeoyenikan said: “I would like to report that NASENI is at the forefront of promoting the culture that all governance systems in Nigeria become digitised.

At NASENI, you don’t see papers anymore, the offices and all our tables are cleared of papers, we have digitized not all only administration, but all our operations.”

He further stressed that this shows that NASENI is fully aware of the importance of digitising operational systems for greater efficiency and productivity.

Earlier the convener of the e-Government Summit & Awards, Mr. Ajayi said that the Awards should not be perceived as a mere feat because it took 33,785 Nigerians to cast their votes for the selection of winners and a lot of mechanisms were put in place to ensure that no one voted twice.

He further affirmed that the “Award night belongs to, above all, the extraordinary Nigerians who have refused to accept the status quo in the delivery of government services…your nominations are not merely entries in a competition; they are testimonies. They are evidence of what is possible when public servants lead with vision, when technology leaders lead with purpose, when governors govern with ambition, and when individuals dedicate themselves to courses greater than themselves”.

The Nigeria e-Government Excellence Awards is the flagship recognition programme of the Nigeria e-Government Summit, as Nigeria’s premier annual platform dedicated to advancing digital governance.
