As the battle for the leadership of 10th National Assembly heats up, the North central All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders have urged the national leadership of the party to ensure that zoning of the offices is done equitably.

In a statement signed by Hanmation mark, Abdulkarim Salisu Muye, Dr Tajudeen Olesin, they called on the National Working Committee of the party, to in determining the zoning arrangement for the National Assembly position ensure a just and equitable distribution of the positions in such a manner that it doesn’t kill the goose that lays the golden egg.

They reiterated for the umpteenth time, that zoning of political offices in our polity has come to stay.

Therefore, the stakeholders noted the party must ensure that it enthrones a zoning arrangement that will consolidate the party in its areas of strength, and empower it in bases that have historically proven to be patchy while also giving everyone a sense of belonging.

They however endorsed the candidature of Senator Sani Musa for Deputy Senate President and Hon Abbas Tajudeen, member representing Zaria Federal Constituency of Kaduna State for Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives.

The statement reads “In the light of this, and for the sake of equity and fairness, we have reached the following concensus: “That the Speakership of the 10th National Assembly be zoned to the North West geopolitical zone for equity and fairness.

“As the zone which returned the highest number of votes  cast for our party at the 2023 General elections, it is only fair for the party to zone the Speakership position there since the Southwest and the Northeast already have the President and office of the Vice President zoned to them.

“That following the above, we have declared our support for Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, Member representing Zaria Federal Constituency of Kaduna State to become the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives;

“With respect to the principal offices in the 10th senate, We align our advocacy with the call by the North Central Senators-elect for the position of the Deputy Senate President to be zoned to the North Central geopolitical zone.

“The zone which  returned the third highest number of votes for the APC at the presidential elections.

“That we have thrown our weight behind the aspiration of Senator Sani Musa 313 of Niger East Senatorial District for the seat.

Both Hon. Abbas Tajudeen and Sen. Sani Musa are people of unimpeachable character and have unblemished record in their careers.

By their antecedents, they will represent National interest, party interest and manage the Legislature for maximum efficiency and necessary cooperation to ensure the success of the Tinubu/Shettima administration.

“We call on the National Working Committee of our great party to ensure that it set the right template for a solid relationship between the executive and the legislature by following through on these suggestions in order to avoid the intervention of fifth columnists and avert disloyal assemblages against the party interest.”
