President Bola Tinubu has emphasised that the strength of Nigeria as a nation is directly tied to the character and leadership of men within their families, describing the home as the “first institution of leadership.”

In a heartfelt Father’s Day message shared on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, on Sunday, President Tinubu paid glowing tribute to fathers across Nigeria and the diaspora, noting that the values upheld in the home ultimately shape the nation’s destiny.

“Our country is only as strong as the men who lead with integrity within their families,” the President wrote. “To be a father is to carry the weight of responsibility with quiet strength. It is to sacrifice comfort so your children can dream, to model discipline, and to lead with love and firmness.”

Highlighting the pivotal role of fatherhood in national development, Tinubu said true leadership begins at home. He noted that fatherhood is not confined to biology but includes all men who guide, protect, and inspire the next generation through mentorship and service.

“Today, we honour our first teachers, silent defenders, and tireless nation-builders—our fathers,” he said, adding that the principles they live by contribute to the strength and moral compass of society.

Reflecting on his own experience as a father and grandfather, President Tinubu described fatherhood as “the most sacred” of titles, reiterating the importance of love, responsibility, and discipline in raising the next generation.

He concluded with a message of appreciation to Nigerian fathers at home and abroad: “Your everyday labours shape the character of our country and the future of our children. Thank you to all Nigerian fathers, biological and symbolic. You are the strength of our nation.”
