The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the setting up of a National Caretaker Committee by the camp led by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike, is in contempt of court.
The PDP also stressed that members of the group have already been expelled from the party, adding that they lack the authority to carry such an activity even if they were still members of the party.
The national publicity secretary of PDP, Comrade Ini Ememobong, in a statement said
“It is important to remind the public that Minister Wike, acting through his agents Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Sam Anyanwu, filed a suit on 21st November 2025 at the Federal High Court, Abuja, before Honourable Justice J.O. Abdulmalik, seeking among other things, the nullification and non-recognition of the PDP Convention and its outcomes.
“Their application for an interim injunction was refused, while all parties were cautioned against taking actions that could render the court’s eventual judgment nugatory.
“By proceeding to announce a fictitious National Caretaker Committee, they have acted in clear contempt of the court and have fundamentally altered the status of the two plaintiffs in that suit,” he said.
He added that the latest drama from the Wike-group represents a further deepening of the trenches of illegality they have been digging since 2023 in their bid to politically incapacitate the PDP and obstruct its role as the main opposition party in Nigeria.
“Their absurdity has now graduated into a full-fledged tool in the ruling party’s playbook, weaponised by this Wike-led band of APC apologists,” he said.
The PDP spokesman said all PDP organs, particularly the National Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees, are intact under the legitimate leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
“These organs are led by dignified individuals, who cannot be procured or commodified in the manner that has become the signature modus operandi of this group of former members,” he added.
Meanwhile, statutory organs and leadership bodies of the PDP have thrown their weights behind the newly elected National Working Committee of the party led by the Barr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN.
This is just as the Party Organs and Bodies including the Chairmen of the Party in the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT; Senate and House of Representatives PDP Caucuses, PDP National Ex-Officio, forum of PDP former governors, forum of PDP former ministers, forum of former NWC members among others have scheduled series of solidarity meetings with the new NWC in Abuja within the week.
The schedule of meeting shows that the NWC is slated to meet with the State Chairmen, members of the House of Representatives and the National Ex-Officio on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 in series of meetings during which the new NWC will present a Certificate of Return to the Party’s candidate in the June, 20, 2026 Ekiti State Governorship election, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede.
Also, according to the schedule, the NWC will on Tuesday, December 16th 2025, meet with former PDP governors, former ministers and former NWC members while the meeting with senators have been scheduled for Wednesday December 17th, 2025.
The meetings are part of the consolidating efforts of the newly elected NWC to stabilize and chart a new course for the party flowing from the successful conduct of the just concluded 2025 elective National Convention of the party in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.
Meanwhile, the PDP NWC has appointed the Osun State Governorship Appeal Panel to consider appeals arising from the conduct of the Osun State PDP governorship election primary for the upcoming 2026 governorship election in the State. The panel, headed by the PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN is scheduled to sit on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
