The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State chapter, and its affiliates have dissociated themselves from a protest by disgruntled youths in Osogbo over the composition of Osun representatives at the forthcoming National Confab.
The youths at a press conference addressed by the chairman of NYCN, Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, flanked by Comrade Solomon Ayobami Abel, chairman, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and Senator Adekunle Akinrinade for Nigerian Youth Parliament, Osun caucus, described the protest as unauthorised, politically motivated and carried out by an unregistered group.
Olakolupo, who declared Osun youths’ support for the coming National Youth Confab 2025, also passed a vote of confidence in the administration of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, and his commissioner for Youth Affairs, Hon. Moshood Olagunju.
They insisted that the protests were baseless and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create unnecessary tension in the state.
“We are particularly proud to support the National Youth Confab 2025, an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development aimed at positioning young Nigerians as key players in policy development and nation-building”.
Defending the selection process, Olakolupo said: “As the chairman of the umbrella body, I can attest that the Hon Commissioner of Youth Affairs, Hon Moshood Olagunju, has not in any way caused confusion or fight within the youth constituency.
“He has strictly followed the directive of the Hon minister of Youth, which is quoted in the confab document, which is a public document. Hon Moshood Olagunju has been a unifying force within the youth constituency, making sure no issue can cause unrest in our dear state”
They urged the public to verify sources of information to avoid misinformation that can undermine societal harmony.
