NDC Cautions Against Political Violence In Enugu

The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, has urged stakeholders and political parties to speak against political violence in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ohaa maintained that political violence is an evil wind that does not blow well for any political parties hence the need to speak against it.

The NDC governorship candidate also urged the Nigeria Police Force and all relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into the alleged Obuoffia incident and every related act of political violence.

He made the call shortly after his visit to Meridian Hospital, Agbani where some injured members of the NDC were receiving treatment.

Ohaa stressed the need for those responsible for the attack to be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law regardless of party affiliation or connections.

“We need justice, but we also need prevention. We cannot wait for another citizen to be shot before we take action.

“To our political leaders, this is bigger than the NDC; it is bigger than the PDP, Labour Party, APC or any other political organisation.

“Today, it may be an NDC meeting. Tomorrow, it could be another party. If we allow violence to become normal, eventually every political gathering becomes a potential danger zone.

He , therefore appealed to their former governors, traditional rulers, religious leaders, elder statesmen, political leaders, civil society organisations and all people of conscience across Enugu State: to Speak up.

“Let us collectively draw a line against political violence. Let us disagree without killing. Let us campaign without intimidation,” he stated.

He promised the patients that they will take responsibility of their medical care and every necessary obligation connected to their treatment and recovery.

Recall that the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to thoroughly investigate two separate incidents of alleged disruption of political gatherings in Nkanu West LGA on September 12, 2026, and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

The first incident, according to a statement issued by the spokesman of the command, SP Daniel Ndukwe occurred at the Ndiuno-Obuoffia community, where it was alleged that armed hoodlums disrupted NDC ward meeting with sporadic shooting while the second occurred at St Joseph Primary School, Agbani, where hoodlums also allegedly destroyed canopies and chairs prepared for a PDP rally.

Ndukwe, however, disclosed that the Police operatives were promptly deployed to both scenes upon receipt of the reports to prevent further breaches and track down the fleeing suspects, despite no prior notification or request for police security coverage for either gathering.
