The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) and the Nile Business School of Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja, have jointly launched a four-day Executive Industry Immersion Challenge (EIIC) programme aimed at closing the long-documented gap between management theory and the practical demands of Nigeria’s financial regulatory environment.
The initiative, hosted at the NDIC’s head office in Abuja, places executive MBA students directly inside one of the country’s foremost financial safety-net institutions, exposing them to first-hand experience of policy formulation, institutional governance, and public sector decision-making.
The formal launch brought together senior leadership from both institutions, with the NDIC’s managing director and chief executive, Thompson Oludare Sunday, setting the programme’s tone with a clear articulation of its strategic intent.
He described the EIIC as more than a corporate hospitality exercise, framing it instead as a structured response to a skills challenge that is becoming increasingly acute as Nigeria’s financial system grows in complexity and global integration.
“The Executive Industry Immersion Challenge has provided the NDIC with the opportunity of a practical platform to expose participants to real-world experience in policy formulation, institutional governance, and public sector management.
The rapidly evolving global work environment requires professionals who possess both theoretical knowledge and practical insight into the realities of the corporate world.” — Thompson Oludare Sunday, MD/CEO, NDIC
Why the NDIC: Governance Reputation Drives Selection
The decision to anchor the immersion programme at the NDIC was deliberate and institution-specific, according to the Nile Business School.
The School’s Dean, Prof. Hauwa Lamido, represented at the opening by senior faculty member Dr. Festus Ekechi, explained that the Corporation was selected precisely because of its standing record of sound corporate governance, professionalism, and institutional integrity in Nigeria’s financial landscape — qualities the School considered essential for an environment in which executive students are expected to learn by observation and direct engagement.
“The choice of the Corporation for the Industry Immersion Programme was informed by its footprint of sound corporate governance, professionalism and integrity in the nation’s financial landscape.”
