NDLEA Arrests 3 Suspects, Seizes 2.687 Tonnes Of Indian Hemp In Cross River

The Cross River State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested three suspected dealers of illicit drugs.

The suspects were reportedly apprehended with 2.687 tonnes of Indian hemps otherwise known as cannabis sativa worth millions of naira.

The suspects were arrested at Obereakai Community in Akamkpa local government area of the State on Wednesday night after men of the agency, in collaboration with the State Security Adviser, Retired Maj. Gen. Okoi Obono joined forces raided a warehouse where which led to arrest of the three suspects.

Suspects arrested include a 47-year-old Mr. Friday Archibong, a native of Nsirebium local government area of Akwa Ibom State; Abraham Anthony, 21, and Utibe David -Ojong 24, from Esit Eket in Eket local government area in Akwa Ibom State.

Their arrests followed a tip-off leading the men of the anti-narcotic agency to storm the community and raided the warehouse stockpiled with substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

Parading the suspects before newsmen, NDLEA State Commander, Mrs. Rachel Umebuali said the operatives were at their work place when they received a tip-off that somebody had a warehouse stockpiled with Indian hemp worth 2.687 tonnes.

“After a tip-off, my boys who were on surveillance, raided the place and made a big catch by arresting three suspects alongside the cannabis sativa,” she said.

The State Commander assured that the suspects will be brought book.

“Those involved in this criminal act will hear from us. We will go after them until we fish them out and make them face the full weight of the law,” she vowed.

He warned those cultivating the outlawed plants with the hope that we would not be reached to stop deceiving themselves.

“So long as they managed to get there, we too will get there. As it is their business, so is it our business too. We will smoke them out and make them face the full weight of the law,” Umebuali assured.
