The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano has arrested 52 suspected drug dealers and users during a two-day crackdown across major drug hotspots in the state.

The arrests were made under a newly launched operation, code named “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” initiated by the Kano Strategic Command of the agency to dismantle drug dens and restore public safety.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, Sadiq Maigatari, the operation, which commenced on April 27, 2026, targeted over 20 notorious locations within the Kano metropolis.

According to the statement, NDLEA operatives raided several hotspots on the first day, including Filin Idi, Tashar Rami, Fagge, Abattoir, and Farm Centre, where 15 suspects were arrested and various illicit substances recovered.

The crackdown intensified on April 28, with morning raids conducted at Hotoro Flyover, Mariri Park, Ramin Jirga Tishama, Yankaba Park, and Audu Bako Secretariat, leading to the arrest of 16 additional suspects, including three women. The agency also recovered assorted drugs and locally made weapons during the operation.

Further evening raids in Kwanar Ungogo, Titin Jajira, Tudun Bojuwa, and parts of Sabon Gari resulted in the arrest of 21 more suspects, including one female, bringing the total number of arrests to 52, with four women among them.

The Kano State Commander of NDLEA, CN DY Lawal, described the operation as a “dislodge and occupy” strategy aimed at reclaiming communities from criminal elements.

“We will dislodge criminal joints, arrest suspects, seize exhibits, and occupy premises until normalcy is restored. This is what we will continue to do under Operation Sharar Mafaka,” Lawal said.

He called on residents to support the agency’s efforts by providing useful information, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

The operation, Maigatari noted further in the statement, aligns with the agenda of the NDLEA Chairman, Mohammed Buba Marwa, to achieve a drug-free society.

He also reiterated the command’s commitment to sustained enforcement, community engagement, and collaboration with stakeholders to rid Kano of illicit drug activities.
