Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully intercepted a drug consignment intended for delivery to bandits in Zamfara and Kebbi states.

NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, reported that a 45-year-old man named Yusuf Yahaya was apprehended on Christmas Eve along the Lagos-Ilorin expressway. Yahaya was found in possession of 31.00kg of compressed cannabis aboard a commercial bus travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, headed for Kebbi State.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that he supplies illicit drugs to bandits in Kebbi and Zamfara axis,” the NDLEA confirmed.

In another operation, the NDLEA intercepted a Qatar-based businessman, Agu Evidence Amobi, and Uchegbu Onyebuchi Obi with shipments of psychoactive substances at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja Lagos.

Babafemi disclosed that Amobi was arrested on Saturday, 30th December, at the departure point of terminal 2 of the MMIA. He was attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight bound for Doha, Qatar. Simultaneously, Obi was taken into custody on the same day after the seizure of a consignment containing 72,000 pills of tramadol 225mg. Obi had been trying to ship these pills to Kano via a local flight.

Amobi, who claimed to have lived and worked in Doha, Qatar, for over a decade, was found with 1.30kg of cannabis sativa concealed in a bag of foodstuff. He purportedly bought the substance in Enugu intending to deliver it to Doha to raise funds for his rents in both Doha and Nigeria, as well as his children’s school fees.

Similarly, NDLEA operatives at the domestic wing of the airport intercepted a carton containing a total of 72,000 pills of tramadol 250mg, weighing 38.50kg. Subsequently, Uchegbu Onyebuchi Obi, responsible for transporting the consignment to the airport for shipment to Kano, was apprehended.
