The event, which started with a screening exercise today, Thursday, at the Damboa Road Eye Hospital in Maiduguri, is expected to last one week and include diagnosis, surgery, and treatment.

Speaking to Journalists after the flagging off of the exercise, Junaid Jibril Maiva, Director-General of Media and Publicity to Senator Ndume, said, “The initiative by the former Senate Chief Whip is aimed at promoting eye health among the elderly and those suffering from clear vision.”

“The exercise will provide free eye check-ups, free eyeglasses, consultations and cataract surgery for up to 1000 Borno citizens or individuals.

“Given the large turnout, we want to assure this gathering that all those who turn up will be given the desired attention and treatment.

“Borno State Government, under Governor Babagana Zulum‘s and Senator Ndume‘s leadership, recognises the importance of good vision for maintaining independence and quality of life, especially among the elderly. This initiative aims to address a critical need and positively impact our citizens‘ lives,” Junaidu said.

Some of the beneficiaries who have successfully concluded their screening and billed for treatment, among whom are Mallam Abubakar Isa, Hajiya Aisami Yakubu, Mr. Dauda John, and Mrs. Rebecca, commended Senator Ndume and Governor Zulum for their contributions to the well-being of the people of Borno State, especially for contracting such medical experts who are committed and determined to correct their eye-related problems.

Notable figures, including Hon. Man Abba Chupun, former chairman of Gwoza local government, Tijani Audu Ville, and Kan Giwa, among other stakeholders, attended the event.
