The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 147 Nigerian migrant returnees from Niamey in the Niger Republic as part of ongoing efforts to support citizens returning from abroad.
The returnees arrived at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on March 5, 2026, at about 12:19 p.m. local time aboard a flight operated by Sky Mali Airline.
According to a statement released on Friday by NEMA’s Kano Operations Office via Facebook, the reception exercise was conducted in collaboration with several stakeholders, including the National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among other partners.
The agency disclosed that the profiling of the returnees was conducted the following day.
“The profiling exercise was conducted on March 6, 2026,” the statement read.
NEMA further stated that the group comprised 136 male adults, five female adults, three male children and three female children.
The agency noted that the operation was successfully carried out due to the cooperation among the participating agencies.
“The collaborative efforts of all stakeholders ensured the exercise was well-coordinated, successful, and hitch-free,” NEMA said.
Meanwhile, NEMA had earlier received another batch of Nigerian migrant returnees evacuated from Sudan in 2025.
During that operation, 148 Nigerians arrived at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport aboard a chartered flight operated by Tarco Aviation.
According to the agency, the returnees were subsequently transported to Chila Hotel for profiling and documentation by relevant stakeholders.
