Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule, has expressed optimism that the emergence of Aminu Muazu Maifata as national president of Association of Local Government of Nigeria, (ALGON) will spur development at the third tier of government in the country.
Maifata, the chairman of Lafia local government area of Nasarawa State was elected the national president of the body on Thursday.
He took over from Mr Kolade David Alabi, who presided over the affairs of the association from April 2019 to March, 2024.
Until his election, he was the deputy president of the association. He also at different times served as the national treasurer of the body.
In a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Ibrahim Addra yesterday in Lafia, Governor Sule described Maifata’s emergence as the national president as a classic case of “whom the cap fits”.
“Your elevation to the position of National President of ALGON is well deserved.
“Your humility, calm disposition, hard work and unwavering loyalty have remained constant,” he stated.
He said the third tier of government is critical and worthy partners in the quest for rapid development of the country.
“As an ambassador of the state in whom we are pleased I wish you a successful tenure and an assurance of my support and that of the Government of Nasarawa State,” he said.
