The new Provost of Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Professor Olufemi Idowu, has reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence and inclusive leadership.
Idowu, who assumed leadership of the prestigious College of Medicine from LASU on December 25, 2024, expressed gratitude to the college community and the management of LASU at large, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello.
He was elected after a recent election exercise for the position of Provost.
According to the Information Unit at LASUCOM, Professor Idowu defeated Professor Mobolaji Oludara, the former Acting Provost, with 108 votes to 21 to emerge as the 10th Provost of the College.
In a statement by the Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, LASU, Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemisi, the exercise, which took place at the Medical Sciences Auditorium, witnessed an impressive voter turnout, comprising members of the college’s Academic Staff Assembly, with a total of 129 votes cast.
The process was overseen by the Chief Electoral Officer and Registrar of the University, Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu, who was ably represented by the College Secretary, Mr. O.A. Oyebanjo, and lauded by observers for its transparency and adherence to electoral standards.
The newly elected Provost, Professor Olufemi Idowu, has since assumed office following the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent Provost, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya, on December 25, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, congratulates Prof. Idowu on his election and wishes him well in his tenure.
