The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has expressed confidence in the ability of the new Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to deliver on its new mandate.
The lawmaker, who represents Ideato North/South federal constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives, is particularly confident that the new NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Bayo Ojulari and Executive Vice President of Downstream, Mumuni Dangazau, CFO Dapo Segun and others will bring their wealth of experiences amassed over the years to bear on the current assignment they were saddled with to move the NNPCL to the next level and consolidate and expand on the gains already recorded.
Ugochinyere, in a statement on Monday, said Ojulari as a seasoned engineer with expertise in petroleum process, and production engineering, who until this new position was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, was by all standards well equiped to sustain the legacy left behind by his predecessor, Mele Kyari, and achieve more feat.
He also noted that Dangazau, a business strategist with over 30 years of experience in the private sector, has the professional and practical experience to man his new line of duty.
The House of Representatives Petroleum Downstream Committee’s chairman, who assured both the NNPCL GCEO and EVP Downstream of the support of the parliament, however, stated that legislative oversight would be maintained in national interest while working together to ensure the country gains more.
“I express confidence in the ability of the new Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), particularly the Group Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Bayo Ojulari and Executive Vice President of Downstream, Mumuni Dangazau to deliver on their assignments.
“For the new GCEO, a seasoned Nigerian engineer with expertise in petroleum, process, and production engineering who until his new appointment, was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, his ability to delivered on the mandate given to him by Mr President is not in doubt.
“It is on record that his firm recently led a consortium of indigenous energy firms in the landmark acquisition of the entire equity holding in the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, worth $2.4bn and it is expected that Ojulari bring such trajectory to the national oil company and the petroleum sector generally for the interest of the country.
“The new GCEO is already demonstrating that he is cut for the job, having hit the ground running by swiftly constituting his team which has Mumuni Dangazau, a round peg in the round hole as EVP, Downstream.
“I assure you of the support and cooperation of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources(Downstream) under my leadership to enable you succeed in your new responsibilities while we strictly oversight the activities of the company and downstream sector under your watch so that Nigerians reap the benefits, thereof,” Ugochinyere stated.
