NFF Leadership Crisis Deepens As Gusau, Sanusi Resign

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi have resigned from their positions, amid a major shake-up at the football governing body.

Sanusi confirmed the development, saying reports that he and Gusau had resigned were true. 

The resignation comes weeks before the NFF elective congress scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, where the federation is expected to elect a new Executive Committee. 

The development follows mounting pressure on the NFF leadership after Nigeria’s national teams suffered a series of setbacks, including the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. 

The federation has also faced scrutiny over its administration and the handling of a ₦17 billion Federal Government intervention fund approved to address outstanding payments involving Nigeria’s national teams. 

Reports indicate that other members of the NFF Executive Committee have also stepped down, although the exact number has varied across reports. The NFF had yet to issue a comprehensive official statement confirming all the reported resignations at the time of reporting. 

The leadership changes could now have implications for the planned September congress and the future administration of Nigerian football.
