A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Disability Rights Rights Advocacy Center (DRAC), has expressed concerns over alleged discrimination of a female student by Edo State College of Nursing Sciences.
In a statement issued by DRAC on Wednesday, the school allegedly collected the sum of N335,000 from the student and withdrew her admission because of her physical appearance.
The group said that the school’s action violates the fundamental rights of the student and also contravenes Nigeria’s Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018.
DRAC, therefore, urged the Edo State College of Nursing Sciences to reverse its decision immediately and allow the affected student pursue her education without discrimination.
The NGO also emphasised the importance of raising awareness about disability rights and promoting the full implementation of Nigeria’s Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018.
