Bridge Connect Africa Initiative (BCAI), in partnership with the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and People with Special Needs, has commenced plans to translate the state’s Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy into Hausa language to boost grassroots participation and implementation.

Speaking during the State WEE Policy Post-Launch Stakeholder Engagement and Dissemination Forum held in Kano on Friday, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the ministry, Yakubu Muhammad, said the translation was necessary to ensure rural women and other non-English speakers understood the policy.

He said stakeholders were invited to review the translated version of the document and make corrections before its final publication.

According to him, the policy would be more impactful if women in remote communities could access and understand it in their local language.

“Kano State is predominantly Hausa and Fulani speaking. We want the document to be accessible not only to people who can read and write English, but also to women in rural and hard-to-reach communities,” he said.

Muhammad added that the translation would help women involved in different economic activities understand government plans aimed at increasing female participation in key sectors of the economy.
