A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO),Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC),the Christ the King Catholic Church,Kubwa, yesterday in Abuja,marked 20 years anniversary of protecting and Promoting human rights in the society.
JDPC works alongside various communities to create an egalitarian society that liberates people from oppressive institutions and structure,create equal opportunities for all people regardless of gender, age or economic status.
In an address presented by the President,JDPC Kubwa,Hon Mike Nwosu,he noted that the NGO is an organ of the Catholic Church, called the Pontifical Commission for Justice and Peace set up by the Holysee.
“The Commission is established in all the diocese of the world for the protection of human rights and the promotion of justice,as catalyst for peace and integral human development.
“Our work is that of advocacy, capacity building,empowering for solidarity action and peace building.There is no way peace can reign where the level of poverty is huge,the rate of that poverty can be attributed to the rate of uneducated people.
In realizing the magnitude of this crisis,the JDPC gave scholarships to 28 students this year,paid for Senior school leaving certificate and University admission exams for ten students.”Nwosu said.
He added that as part of the twenty years anniversary,three sewing machines were given out to people who have finished apprenticeship financed by JPDC,and gave out about one million naira for various purposes to the needy.
On his part the Chairman, Organizing Committee of the 20th Year Anniversary,Dele Aworinde said,”Today, though we gather from different religious faiths,the greatest thing that holds us together is that we are one.
“This is the ideal that JDPC has always pursued.We are focused on providing service for a united people.We will keep working for the good of our people,this is our conviction and the essence of real service.”
