A non-governmental organization (NGO), The Gifting Hands Initiative has continued to make remarkable impact in communities across Nigeria through various empowerment and outreach programmes.
The faith-based humanitarian platform was founded in December 2021 by Mercy Akinyemi to support the less privileged.
According the founder, the initiative is borne out of passion to show love, promote self-reliance, and inspire moral and spiritual growth among vulnerable groups.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP, Akinyemi said; “Over the years, the organisation has touched the lives of more than 10,000 people through several humanitarian efforts, including annual prison outreaches, children’s gatherings, and widows’ empowerment programmes. These interventions have provided beneficiaries with essential items such as food, clothing, footwear, jewellery, and Bibles, alongside financial support and mentorship.”
She acknowledged the immense contributions of Jean Paul of the UNDP (AUN), Uche Emmanuel Chukwuemeka of ROLAC, Mathar Tawiya of Mum’s Booth, and Adek Bassey of TFT, describing them as “pillars of growth” who have mentored and supported the initiative through its developmental journey.
Speaking on the organisation’s mission, Akinyemi said the organisation serves not only as a channel for charity but also as a platform for spiritual rebirth, personal development, and societal transformation. According to her, “our vision is to help people find God, build moral strength, and become independent citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.”
She revealed that the group’s prison outreach remains one of its most impactful programmes, focusing on both spiritual and financial liberation of inmates—particularly those wrongfully incarcerated. “Through counseling, skill training, and donations, the initiative seeks to help prisoners reintegrate into society with dignity and hope.”
Akinyemi further emphasized that the NGO is committed to fostering unity and peace among Nigerians, regardless of tribe, faith, or social status. “We believe that as a nation, we can only rise when we lift others. Our goal is to build a compassionate society where no one feels inferior or forgotten,” she said.
