NGO, Police Train Kogi Communities In Security Consciousness, Proactive Measures

A non governmental organization, Participation Initiative for Behavioral Change in Development (PIBCID), and Nigeria Women Trust Fund (NWTF), has called on citizens and stakeholders in communities to be security conscious and report all suspicious movements to the authorities for immediate action.

The executive director of PIBCID,  Rachiel Remilekun Akande, stated this during a One Day Capacity Building Training on Security Red flags and Early warning Detection, organised by PIBCID in Partnership with the Nigeria Police Force with funding support from Nigeria Women Trust Fund (NWTF), held at Serikin Noma, in Lokoja the Kogi State capital.

Akande noted that security breeches don’t just happen, that there are clear signs and signals, adding that these are the signs and signals that members of the communities are to look out for to be able to take proactive measures to prevent it from happening.

She advised participants to monitor and report strange people and movements in their environment to security agents, noting that the women and children are the most affected in the event of any security challenges.

“We must be conscious of strange people in our environment. We must promptly report such movements to the appropriate agencies for action.

“Remember that when there is insecurity in the community, the women and the children are the worst affected. They must therefore be vigilant and always ensure a safe environment at all times.

In her remarks, Zainab Tanko, from NWTF, assured that her organisation will continue to partner with credible organisations working to secure a safe environment for the people.

Speaking also, Olutoyin Omoyemi, of the NWTF called on the participants to take the training very seriously, saying that security is the duty of everyone.

“Remember that security is the business of everyone. We must be vigilant and report all suspicious movements around us to security agents. Since the security agents are not  spirits, they can only take action when a report is made to them.”

Speaking on the overview of the training, Adoh Innocent Onyema, the Digital and Innovation Coordinator of  Nigerian Women Trust Fund, representing the Chief Executive Officer of the organization, Brenda Anugwom. called for concerted efforts in the fight against insecurity in the land.

Speaking further he said, “Today’s Capacity Building Training on Security Red Flags and Early Warning Detection is very important in preparing the people to identify these red flags and take appropriate measures to safeguard the community.

“We’re proud to partner with Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change in Development (PIBCID) to bring this crucial training to the Serikin Noma community in Kogi State. Today’s focus on identifying security red flags and early warning detection will empower you to enhance community safety and prevent potential threats.

“Let’s work together to create a safer environment for all. Thank you, and let’s get started,” he stressed.

In his contribution, the District Head of Serikinoma, Alhaji Musa Serikin Bala, promised the continue support of the community to security agents to ensure a peaceful environment, saying that they will continue to work with the content of the training.

He thanked the organisers, particularly PIBCID, NWTF and the Nigeria Police Force, saying that the training was timely, considering the current security challenges facing the nation.

In her remarks, the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, called on members of the community to work in synergy with the police to ensure a secured environment for them.

She said, they must be proactive by promptly reporting any security threat in their community to security agents for prompt action.
