The National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) is partnering with UNICEF to develop the education sector plans for Bauchi State and seven other states nationwide.

LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that other piloting states include Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Kebbi, Cross-River, Katsina and Gombe.

The drive seeks to address the unique challenges peculiar to these states and harness their education potentials.

The acting director-general of NIEPA, Dr Shofoyeke Adebiyi disclosed this in Bauchi during a five-day training organised for education managers of the eight benefiting states.

“It is my honour to announce our collaboration with UNICEF in the development of Education Sector Plans for eight states across Nigeria.

“The states have unique challenges and opportunities in the education sector and through this partnership, we aim to address them comprehensively and strategically.

“The first activity, which is where we are now, encompasses the training of EMIS, education managers of the states on evidence-based, gender transformative, equity and disability-inclusive education.

“Our approach will be holistic, addressing issues such as access to education, reduction of the number of out-of-school children, disability inclusiveness in education, quality of teaching and learning management and efficiency, infrastructure development, teacher training, curriculum enhancement and stakeholders’ engagement and funding,” he stated.

The acting director-general who was represented by the desk officer, UNICEF, Dr Sunday Adegbesan urged participants to ensure the smooth actualisation of the aims of the project to empower children with quality education that they need to actualise their full potentials.

Field Officer, UNICEF Bauchi, Mr Raphael Aiyedepe said UNICEF would continue to support causes aimed at enhancing the education sector of states in the country.
