The commissioner for Sports Development in Bayelsa State, Hon. Daniel Igali, has expressed his support for the state’s contingent ahead of the Niger Delta Sports Festival, which will take place from 1st to 9th April 2025 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Igali commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for organising the event, highlighting its uniqueness. “Unlike other sports festivals where some states send 900 athletes and others only 300, this festival ensures fair competition by allowing equal contingent sizes,” he noted.

He conveyed the blessings of Governor Douye Diri to the athletes, urging them to compete with integrity. “This is a tremendous opportunity for exposure, and we hope to use it to prepare for the National Sports Festival in Ogun next month.”

While emphasising development over medals, he assured that Bayelsa’s athletes are in Uyo to compete vigorously. “We aim to uphold our state’s sporting reputation and give a good account of ourselves.”

Igali wished the contingent success, encouraging them to be proud ambassadors of Bayelsa and the Ijaw Nation.
