The Niger Delta Progressive Women Worldwide has called for the immediate redeployment of Nentawe Yiltawa from his position as minister-designate of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

Led by national coordinator Comrade Miebi Andakuro, the group raised concerns following Yiltawa’s recent Senate screening.

They alleged that his remarks during the screening reflected a northern bias that could marginalise the southern regions of Nigeria.

“Statements made by Nentawe during the screening suggest that the southern parts of the country will see minimal benefit, if any, from the ministry under his leadership,” said Andakuro.

The group urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider their concerns, arguing that a ministry meant to serve the entire country should not be led by someone perceived to favour one region.

They suggested that Yiltawa, an engineer by profession, might be more suited to the Ministry of Lands and Housing, where his skills could be better utilised.

Andakuro further emphasised that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction would be more effectively led by a woman with a strong background in humanitarian work rather than an appointee selected for political reasons.
