Niger State governor, Mohammed Bago, has dissolved the state executive council in a move seen as aligning forces ahead of the 2027 general election.
Some commissioners and designated special advisers, apart from those who were his personal aides, were inaffected.
In a brief release after yesterday’s weekly executive council meeting, the chief press secretary to the Governor, Bologi Ibrahim, said, “Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has dissolved his cabinet.”
He said the governor announced the decision during the State Executive Council meeting at the Council Chamber, Minna.
“He appreciated them for the services they had so far rendered towards the development of the state and wished them the best in their future endeavours”, the statement read in part.
The statement added that the governor retained ” the secretary to the state government (SSG), chief of staff, deputy chief of staff, and other principal officers in his office,”
LEADERSHIP gathered that the governor’s announcement at the meeting took many of the cabinet members by surprise.
It was learnt that the decision of the governor was informed by the need to ensure that those who are popular in their locality with electoral value and those who are competent to power his new Niger agenda were appointed into his cabinet.
