Niger State governor-elect, Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago, yesterday visited his closest opponent in the governorship election, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Isah Liman Kantigi, indicating that they might form a common front.
Bago who was impressed that the PDP candidate conceded defeat and congratulated him before the final collation assured of his desire for all-inclusive government.
Bago had stated during his acceptance speech after collecting his certificate of return; “I want to use this opportunity to express my gratitude to my elder brother, Alhaji Isah Liman Kantigi, the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, for demonstrating exemplary sportsmanship in acknowledging the legitimacy of this mandate.
“His symbolic phone call in the wake of this victory testified that elections are not war and that we are going to remain allies despite our clashing partisan allegiances.”
It was learnt that the PDP candidate has assured that he would not pursue any case at the tribunal and might have impressed it on the party not to challenge Bago’s victory.
LEADERSHIP Sunday however gathered that the party might not be on the same page with the candidate as it was learnt that a senior lawyer has been contacted to pursue the case, looking for some technical grounds to leverage on without the party’s candidate.
