The Niger state governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has signed the 2026 appropriations bill of N1.073 trillion into law.

The proposed budget was signed at a brief ceremony held in the council chamber of the Government House in Minna.

The total sum of the 2026 budget, as passed and signed, was over N1,073 trillion, as opposed to more than N1.031 trillion presented by the farmer governor, indicating an upward review.

According to the signed 2026 budget, Capital Expenditure stands at over N783 billion, while Recurrent Expenditure exceeds  N290 billion.

The governor applauded the 10th State Assembly for working round the clock to ensure timely passage of the 2026 budget estimate.

He scored the 10th State Assembly 100 per cent, saying the speed at which the leadership and members of the legislature respond to the demands of the Executive Arm of government was unprecedented, which he said is the beauty of democracy.

He assured that the budget would be implemented accordingly to achieve the desired objectives.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, commended the governor and his team for coming up with a budget estimate which he described as “the best,” .

According to the Speaker, it was easy for them to scrutinise the proposed budget even as the MDAs gave them maximum cooperation in making the screening a hitch-free exercise.
