Niger Govt, Police Intensify War Against Illegal Miners

Niger State Commissioner of Police Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman has emphasized the urgent need for aggressive action in synergy with the state government to combat illegal mining activities within the state.

The commissioner stated this during a courtesy visit yesterday by the Niger State Ministry of Mineral Resources led by the commissioner, Alhaji Garba Sabo Yahaya.

The ministry visited to seek the police’s support and assistance in effectively addressing the issue of illegal mining.

The police boss acknowledged the challenges associated with legal and illegal mining in the state and affirmed the police force’s readiness to collaborate and partner with the ministry to address these challenges effectively.

He emphasised the need for drastic actions to deter illegal miners and expressed concern over illegal mining in the state.

He suggested that other government segments must be engaged to ensure comprehensive action, recognising that efforts were insufficient, especially in sensitisation.

Earlier, the commissioner for mineral resources expressed appreciation for the police force’s efforts and said the ministry required the police’s assistance to carry out its activities successfully.
