Niger State has begun a life skills programme in schools under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project.

The state’s project coordinator of AGILE, Maimuna Ibrahim Tahir while speaking at a sensitisation meeting for principals and stakeholders on the commencement of the programme in Minna yesterday stressed the need for their support for success of the programme.

She said, “This initiative is not merely a programme, it is a transformative movement. For too long, gaps in holistic education have hindered the full potential of our adolescent girls.”

She reminded the stakeholders that the AGILE Project seeks to bridge these gaps by equipping girls with essential life skills—critical thinking, leadership, financial literacy, health education and emotional resilience, thus complementing their academic journeys.

Hajiya Tahir said the skills were not just tools for personal growth but catalysts for societal progress.

“You are the frontline champions of this vision. Your schools are the fertile ground where seeds of empowerment will be sown. Your leadership will ensure these skills are integrated seamlessly into the learning environment, fostering confident young women ready to navigate life’s challenges” she told the principals.

She said the roles of stakeholders and partners were indispensable in view of the policy support resources and community engagement in creating a sustainable ecosystem for change.
