Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Mohammad Sarkin Daji, has stressed the need for members to embark on robust oversight functions after the signing of the 2024 budget.

He stated this during the official opening ceremony of a two-day retreat organised for the lawmakers and committees’ clerks on Appropriation Process and Gender Responsive Budgeting.

Daji appealed to the participants to use the opportunity of the retreat to acquire fresh ideas and knowledge that will help them in their assignments.

He said the retreat is important, especially after the 2024 budget of the state has just been passed and signed into law by the governor, Mohammed Umar Bago.

The speaker said the next action is oversight function to ensure proper, prudent and accountable implementation of the budget by various ministries department and agencies (MDAs).
