Niger State Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, has advocated the application of modern technology and an increased workforce to support security agencies in combating crime and safeguarding lives and property.

He stated this during the deputy inspector-general of police (DIG) in charge of Training and Development, North Central Zone, Ishaku Mohammed’s visit to the Government House, Minna.

The deputy governor, who received the DIG on behalf of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, lauded the efforts of the security agencies in maintaining peace and stability across the state.

He noted that the security situation in Niger State has improved significantly. Still, he added that the state’s vast landmass continued to pose challenges to effective security coverage due to an inadequate workforce.

Garba explained that the state government has made considerable progress in tackling criminal activities and is increasingly adopting technology-driven approaches to address emerging security threats.

He posited that the deployment of additional security personnel, the provision of adequate equipment, and sustained collaboration among security agencies were necessary to consolidate the gains already achieved.

Mohammed had earlier disclosed that the federal government had approved the recruitment of 50,000 additional police personnel to strengthen policing across the country.

He stated that efforts are also being intensified to improve logistics and security operations, particularly in border communities and other vulnerable areas, while acknowledging the importance of leveraging modern technologies, in aerial surveillance and drones, to enhance intelligence gathering, monitoring, and rapid response capabilities.
