The Spiritual Leader of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, has urged Nigerian leaders to use their authority to protect the vulnerable, uphold justice and promote the welfare of the people as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Obu gave the charge in his divine message delivered at the world headquarters of the fold in Calabar, warning leaders against sacrificing national interest for political gain.
“To the leaders of Nigeria, remember that leadership is a sacred responsibility. Use the authority entrusted to you to promote the welfare of the people, protect the vulnerable, uphold justice and peace, and build institutions that will serve generations to come,” he said.
“Do not sacrifice the enduring interests of the nation for temporary political interests,” stressing that true leadership must be anchored on justice, equity and service to humanity,”he added.
The cleric stated that Nigeria’s continued existence despite daunting challenges is a testimony of divine grace, and urged Nigerians to rise above tribalism, regionalism and religious division to build a united nation.
He also charged the youth to be patriotic and productive, saying, “Pursue knowledge, develop your talents, reject violence and destructive influences, and channel your energy toward creativity, innovation, service, and national development.”
