Adamawa State government has concluded plans to host the United Nations Mixed Commission for the Nigeria-Cameroon border demarcation in villages along the border with Cameroon.
The state deputy governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, disclosed this shortly after the Adamawa State Boundary Committee sensitisation engagement with stakeholders of the affected local governments of Madagali, Michika, Mubi-North and Mubi-South LGAs.
The Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission is a United Nations (UN)-established body created to facilitate the peaceful implementation of the International Court of Justice judgment regarding the boundary dispute between Cameroon and Nigeria.
Farauta stated that CNMC would ensure the border communities with Cameroon are clearly demarcated and that development is brought to the villages, hence the state boundary committee’s sensitisation engagement with the affected border local government areas.
Briefing journalists shortly after the meeting in Mubi, Farauta said that the two countries have adopted a give-and-take formula.  She is hopeful of a peaceful, amicable demarcation exercise between the two nations, which have a long history of intermarriage, trade, and shared cultural values.
It could be recalled that the leaders of Nigeria and Cameroon established the commission in 2002 to serve as a critical mechanism for resolving territorial disagreements and promoting cooperation between the two nations.
