The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has announced the departure of Steve Tikolo, head coach of the Senior Men’s National team, the ‘Yellow Greens’, and high-performance manager, after a three-and-a-half-year tenure.
In a press statement released on Monday morning and signed by Musa Ehizoje Bodie, the Federation’s public relations and business development manager, the NCF confirmed that the decision was reached by mutual agreement.
Over the past three years, the former Kenyan international was instrumental in developing talent, fostering teamwork, and instilling discipline within the squad, contributing significantly to its growth and professionalism.
Under Tikolo’s leadership, the men’s team saw an improvement in their ICC T20 rankings, climbing from 42nd to 37th. Nigeria also established itself as a more dominant force in West Africa and became more competitive against higher-ranked East African nations.
Dr. Uyi Akpata, President of the Federation, commented on the development, saying; “The Board and Management of NCF extend their sincere appreciation to Steve for his unwavering commitment and dedication over the past three years. His on-field results have been outstanding, but it is the culture of discipline, hard work, passion, and dedication that will be long-lasting.”
Steve Tikolo also expressed his gratitude: “I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with The Nigeria Cricket Federation and for the support I received from the players, staff, and management. I leave with positive memories, with great optimism that the team will continue to improve.”
The NCF wished Tikolo well in his future endeavours, adding that further details regarding the transition and the appointment of a new Head Coach and High-Performance Manager will be shared in due course.
