The European Union (EU), in partnership with the government of Nigeria, is set to host one of country’s most anticipated science and innovation events in Lagos State today.

The Nigeria-EU Science and Innovation Day, themed “Making Science Together”, will bring together researchers, innovators, policymakers, investors, and creative thinkers to explore how Nigeria and Europe can build science ecosystems that work.

Announcing the event, the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr Ambassador Gautier Mignot, said that strong science ecosystems are not built in isolation, noting that they grow when institutions, people, and creativity are linked through trust, openness, and sustained investment.

The event, which will be held at the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, comes at a time when Nigeria and the EU are strengthening cooperation on science, technology, and innovation, including through the Global Gateway partnership framework. It therefore provides a shared space to exchange ideas, showcase talent, and turn ambition into action.

“The Nigeria–EU Science & Innovation Day reflects a shared belief that science and innovation are strongest when partnerships are deep, inclusive, and built for long-term impact,” Ambassador Mignot added.

Expressing optimism about Nigeria’s science and innovation landscape, he said: “Nigeria’s scientific and innovation ecosystem holds immense promise. Through closer cooperation with Europe, we are strengthening the connections that allow ideas, talent, and solutions to move faster and further.

“By bringing together researchers, innovators, policymakers, and investors, this initiative helps turn shared ambition into collaboration that delivers practical results for society.”

The one-day event will feature a rich programme, including high-level conversations and panel discussions, a young researchers’ pitch session, and a matchmaking meeting between Nigerian and European organisations, designed to foster collaboration, partnerships, and real-world impact.

Reiterating the EU’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s science and innovation ecosystem, Ambassador Mignot said: “For the European Union, cooperation on science and innovation is about investing in people and partnerships that can shape a more sustainable and prosperous future for Nigeria and Europe alike.”
