Hashim who also serves on the council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and an alumnus of Harvard University said the policy would significantly boost local industries, reduce dependence on foreign imports and strengthen indigenous engineering capacity.

“I commend Mr. President’s courageous leadership in implementing the Renewed Hope Nigeria-First Procurement Policy. This is a game-changing initiative that will reshape our nation’s economic trajectory.

By prioritising locally made products in government procurement, the policy promotes self-reliance, boosts productivity, and drives sustainable economic growth,” he stated.

The policy, recently confirmed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, mandates all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to prioritise local content in procurement processes.

A waiver for foreign alternatives will only be granted by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) when no viable local option exists.

Hashim expressed optimism that the policy’s implementation would lead to job creation, improved technical expertise, and the revitalisation of Nigeria’s industrial sector.

“This visionary policy will have far-reaching impacts on economic empowerment. Mr. President is breathing new life into our economy, creating jobs, and encouraging innovation,” he said.

He noted that the policy would boost investor confidence in local products and enhance entrepreneurship.

“It will help reclaim our economic sovereignty and build confidence among local entrepreneurs. By reducing dependency on imports, we promote economic liberation and self-determination,” Hashim added.

He also highlighted the policy’s alignment with global best practices, noting that it supports sustainable development and helps reduce Nigeria’s carbon footprint.

“Mr. President’s efforts will ensure sustainable progress, and this policy is a strategic step toward long-term national development,” he said.

Hashim called on all stakeholders, including government agencies and private sector players, to support the policy and ensure its full implementation for the collective advancement of the nation.

“We celebrate your commitment to nation-building and eagerly anticipate the transformative impact this policy will have on our economy and society,” he said.
