The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a special passport intervention exercise for Nigerians residing in the United Kingdom to address pending applications and improve access to passport services.

The exercise, directed by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, will involve a dedicated Passport Intervention Team from the NIS headquarters in Abuja working in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK.

The NIS said the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, had directed the team to begin the intervention on August 10, 2026.

As part of the exercise, the team will attend to outstanding passport applications, process new applications and assist Nigerians whose passports have less than one year remaining before expiration and require renewal.

The intervention team will also travel to selected cities across the UK to conduct enrolment and facilitate passport processing for applicants.

Applicants participating in the exercise are required to present their completed application forms alongside proof of payment.

However, the NIS urged Nigerians to wait for the official schedule before visiting any of the designated locations, noting that the details of the cities, venues, dates and enrolment times would be announced separately.

“Applicants are therefore advised not to proceed to any location until the relevant schedule has been officially communicated,” the service said.

Nigerians in the UK were also encouraged to monitor the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission for updates concerning the exercise.

The NIS added that its digital passport services, including the Contactless Passport Application System, would remain operational throughout the intervention, while applicants would continue to have access to home delivery.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to efficient, transparent and responsive passport Service Delivery to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora,” the Service added.
