Nigeria’s National Swimming Camp for the 16th edition of the Africa Junior Championship in Egypt has officially commenced. The team is currently based in Lagos, where they are training at the National Stadium Swimming Pool in Surulere.
Among the athletes already in camp are Stanley Ossai, Aidan Abili Dumuje, Adenubi Temidayo, Olaiya Timileyin, Demilade Akanbi, and Tofunmi Ibidapo. These locally-based swimmers are under the expert guidance of Coach Yellow Yeiwah, a distinguished Olympian and veteran swimmer who has achieved significant success for Nigeria on the international stage, earning numerous medals throughout his career.
In addition to the athletes training in Lagos, several competitors based in the diaspora are also engaging in intensive preparations in the UK to ensure their readiness for the championship. These include Abduljaba Adama, Angelo Nnaji, Ayobami Akindele Kashope Obatoyinbo, Omolola Akinsanmi, Atinuke Alfred, Boluwatife Alfred, and Eva Omodara Ayankoya.
The Africa Junior Championship is set to take place from 28th April to 4th May 2025, and the Nigerian team is optimistic about their performance and prospects for success at this prestigious event.
