The African Civil Society Forum has unveiled Nigerian barber, Joshua Babatunde Aiyenuro, popularly known as T-Jos Signature, as a new Guinness World Records holder for the longest professional barbing marathon, describing the feat as a landmark achievement for skilled trades in Nigeria.

Joshua set the record on February 2, 2026, in Abuja, after completing the marathon in what the Forum said symbolises resilience, discipline and triumph over adversity.

Speaking on the achievement, Joshua said the record represents more than a personal milestone, noting that it highlights the dignity and economic value of vocational skills and creative trades.

Beyond the record, he announced the launch of a nationwide youth empowerment initiative aimed at equipping young Nigerians with practical skills. The programme targets 1,000 youths per state and focuses on professional barbing, hairdressing and tailoring.

Designed in partnership with state governments, private sector organisations and philanthropists, the initiative will provide training, equipment and starter packs to help beneficiaries build sustainable livelihoods.

“We are creating pathways to prosperity, one cut at a time,” Joshua said, adding that the goal is to empower young people to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s growth and social stability.

From the streets of Surulere to global recognition, Joshua’s story underscores the power of determination, resilience and skills development in transforming lives.

Raised in Aguda, Surulere, Lagos, Joshua endured difficult early circumstances but channelled his energy into mastering the barbing craft. His commitment and growing reputation later earned him recognition as an official barber to the Super Eagles.

His journey to global recognition was marked by setbacks. An earlier attempt saw him complete 154 hours of continuous barbing, only for the record to be disqualified due to technicalities. Soon after, he lost his mother, a personal tragedy that threatened to derail his ambition.

Undeterred, Joshua returned with renewed resolve, rebuilding his campaign and preparing meticulously for another attempt that ultimately earned him international acclaim.
