Nigeria’s active mobile subscriptions increased to 188.01 million in April, with Globacom accounting for 23.18 million active subscribers, according to the latest telecommunications industry statistics released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
According to the report by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the figures, published by the NCC, indicate continued growth in mobile connectivity following the completion of subscriber verification exercises across telecommunications networks.
The report also showed that the country’s teledensity rose to 86.73 per cent, while broadband subscriptions climbed to 120.68 million, reflecting increasing demand for both voice and internet services nationwide.
According to the data, Globacom’s subscriber base provides the operator with opportunities to expand its data offerings, youth-focused products, small business connectivity services and customer retention initiatives as it prepares to mark its 23rd anniversary in August.
The telecom company has continued to focus on the mass market through affordable products, including its Talkmasta tariff plan and enhanced welcome bonuses for both new and existing subscribers.
Industry analysts said competition among mobile network operators is increasingly being driven by active subscriber usage, network quality and broadband penetration, rather than the acquisition of new SIM cards.
They noted that the National Identification Number (NIN)-SIM linkage exercise and the deactivation of inactive lines have made verified active subscriptions a more reliable measure of operators’ market performance.
According to the analysts, Globacom’s active subscriber base of 23.18 million provides a strong platform to deepen customer engagement, improve service delivery and reinforce its position in Nigeria’s growing broadband market.
