The Arewa Youths have commended Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) following the ruling of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, which upheld the continuity and long-term renewal of the nation’s pipeline surveillance contract.

In a statement issued by Kabiru Yusuf, the group described the judgement as a landmark decision that reinforces national economic stability and strengthens ongoing efforts to curb crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

The FCT High Court, presided over by Justice Bello, dismissed a suit filed by the Registered Trustees of the People’s Well-Being Association, which sought to halt and restructure the pipeline surveillance contract, including calls for its decentralisation.

The defendants in the suit included the Attorney General of the Federation, NNPCL, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL), and Abokus Integrated Security Services Limited.

The claimants had prayed the court to grant an interim injunction restraining the Federal Government and NNPCL from renewing or continuing the surveillance contract. However, the court declined the application, ruling that granting such reliefs would be contrary to national economic interests.

Reacting to the judgement, the Arewa Youths said the ruling represented a major victory for Nigeria’s economy and a clear endorsement of the effectiveness of the current surveillance framework.

“The decision of the court is a welcome development and a strong signal that national interest must always prevail over sectional or politically motivated considerations,” the statement read.

The group praised Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited for its role in drastically reducing pipeline vandalism and oil theft, noting that its operations have contributed significantly to improved crude oil production and revenue generation.

They also lauded NNPCL and other security agencies for their collaboration and commitment to safeguarding the nation’s critical oil assets.

According to the Arewa Youths, the rejection of calls for decentralisation of the contract further affirmed the need for a coordinated and unified approach in tackling economic sabotage in the oil sector.

“The judgement has not only preserved an effective system but has also safeguarded the economic lifeline of the country. Nigeria’s economy has clearly emerged as the ultimate winner,” the statement added.

The group urged all stakeholders to support ongoing efforts to secure the nation’s oil infrastructure and avoid actions that could undermine progress recorded in the fight against crude oil theft.
