The International Right of Way Association (IRWA) Chapter 84 Nigeria, has elected a new leadership with Idongesit Akpan as president; Ikechukwu Nwachukwu, vice president; Aminu Shuaibu, secretary; Philip Nwachukwu, treasurer and Kola Olayode, international director.
This came at the IRWA chapter 84 annual seminar in Abuja with the theme; “Better Right of Way Management and Maintenance,” to highlight the best approach to the Right of Way management and Maintenance.
In a keynote address, the director, railway service, Ministry of Transportation, James Zirra, said mismanagement of acquired right of way is one of the major challenges affecting infrastructure development in Nigeria.
Zirra stated that effective maintenance of right of way requires a proactive measure rather than reactive approach.
“The future of Nigeria’s infrastructure depends on not only what we build, but on how effectively we protect, manage and maintain what we build,” he said.
Also speaking, an official from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Zimuzo Ozuah, stressed the value of right of way as an asset, stating that conscious efforts should be made to harness it.
