Niger State’s first privately-owned university,  Newgate University, Minna, has rolled out 24 postgraduate programmes.

The vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Sadiq Yusuf, who  disclosed this yesterday in Minna, the state capital, said the programmes would be run with the support of 16 visiting local and foreign  professors.

He  said the approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to run the programmes was sequel to a successful resource verification exercise conducted by the commission  to assess the university’s manpower and facilities for the proposed programmes.

Yusuf said the programmes covered Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees across various disciplines.

According to him, the PGD programmes include Management Studies, Computer Science, Public Health and Health Management, while the MSc programmes cover Accounting, Business Administration, International Relations, Public Health, and Computer Science, with specialisations in Cybersecurity, Software Engineering and Information Technology Systems.

The vice chancellor added that the university will also offer PhD degrees in Computer Science, Business Administration, Accounting and International Relations, alongside professional and executive programmes such as Doctor of Business Administration, Doctor of Management, and Doctor of Public Health.

He stated that “this university has made remarkable progress. We started academic activities in 2022 with about 300–400 students, but today we have over 2,000 students enrolled in 14 undergraduate programmes.”
