Independent petroleum marketer NipCo, has released information saying that preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle involved in an incident at its station had been fitted with an additional spurious cylinder that was not approved or suitable for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) use.

The company’s statement is coming after an incident involving a CNG-converted vehicle,Toyota Camry with Registration No. MAP-962 JU, which occurred at the Nipco Gas Filling Station, Airport Road, Abuja, FCT.

The cylinder reportedly ruptured shortly after refuelling commenced, resulting in an explosion that caused damage to the vehicle.

No fatalities, injuries, or casualties were recorded in the incident.

Station personnel responded promptly in accordance with established emergency response procedures. The driver has been retained at the station to assist with ongoing enquiries, while the relevant regulatory and security authorities will be duly informed for further investigation.

“Management reiterates that safety remains our highest priority. Motorists and CNG vehicle owners are strongly advised to ensure that all CNG cylinders, conversion systems, and associated components are approved, certified, and installed only by duly authorised and qualified personnel. The use of spurious, uncertified, or unsuitable cylinders and components is strictly discouraged.
