The program, which was declared open on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 by the executive governor of the state, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who was represented by the deputy governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta.

The opening day had more than 200 participants from all parts of the state.
Declaring the event open, Professor Farauta said: “We hope Adamawa State will not only benefit from this training, it will ultimately lead to produce global stars. The governor will support the cause of reducing vices through sports. It is taking place before the commencement of the Governor’s Cup in Adamawa State. We hope the experience from this seminar will be applied in our grassroot sports development.

“We commend the director-general of the National Institute for Sports, Professor Olawale Moronkola, the Registrar and all the resource persons for deeming it fit to hold this seminar in Adamawa State. The program is in line with the vision of his Excellence Rt Honourable Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to discover talents and empower the youths through sports. I therefore urge all participants to make the best use of the opportunity of this seminar to improve themselves and positively impact sports development in our state.

Speaking at the event, director-general NIS, Professor Olawale Moronkola affirmed: “Sports is an activity accompanied with physical exertion that demands skills involving individuals as well as other people during performance. Sports is now being used to foster or promote unity as well as instruments for diplomacy, fostering skills and knowledge for development, addressing youth restiveness, public health and peace keeping.
