NJC Confirms Receipt Of Iyere’s Petition On Enugu Economic Survival Summit

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has confirmed receipt of a petition relating to activities connected with the Enugu Economic Survival Summit, which was scheduled to hold in Lagos on September 30, 2025.

The confirmation was contained in a letter dated January 16, 2026, signed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and chairman of the NJC, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. The letter acknowledged receipt of the petition dated December 9, 2025, and indicated that the council was giving the matter due consideration.

The petition was submitted by Comrade Kennedy Iyere, convener of the Youths Off The Street Initiative (YOTSI), and related to concerns surrounding the restriction of the Enugu Economic Survival Summit by the government of Enugu State.

Reacting to the acknowledgement, Iyere expressed appreciation to the NJC and the Chief Justice of Nigeria for the expedited response to the petition. He described the response as a reflection of the council’s institutional role in receiving and reviewing matters brought before it.

According to him, the petition was submitted in line with established procedures and was intended to seek clarity and review through appropriate legal and administrative channels.

“This process is about engaging the relevant institutions and allowing them to carry out their constitutional responsibilities,” he said.

Iyere added that his organisation remained committed to lawful advocacy and constructive engagement, noting that it respects the independence of the judiciary and due process.

The NJC, which is responsible for the discipline and oversight of judicial officers, noted that the complaints raised in the petition would be addressed.
