The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) will meet today to take a final decision on the impending strike over the scarcity of naira notes.

The meeting which is expected to involve the National Executive Committee (NEC) of NLC will bring members from states and local government areas to give reports on the availability of cash for Nigerians.

The outcome of the meeting is also expected to produce a decision on whether or not the labour centre will go ahead with its threatened strike tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele and the labour leaders yesterday met with the minister of labour and employment, Dr Chris Ngige in Abuja.

The meetings came on heels of efforts by both the CBN and the labour ministry to avert the impending strike threatened by the organized labour.

Last week similar attempts were made when the apex bank sent a delegation involving top officials to meet with the congress leadership at the Labour House.

The move, it was gathered, was an attempt to avert the strike. Some hours after, the CBN announced that it had commenced the evacuation of stocked naira notes to commercial banks and directed them to open both on Saturday and Sunday to make cash available to Nigerians.
