In a move to prevent a looming crisis, over 200 delegates of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) are set to gather in Abuja tomorrow for an Emergency Delegates Meeting (EDM) to address growing tensions around its electoral process.

The emergency session followed the controversial disqualification of several candidates ahead of the Annual Delegates Meeting (ADM) and upcoming elections.

The development has sparked widespread protests from state chairmen, interest groups, and the Committee of Past Presidents over the past two weeks.

The chairman of the Forum of State Chairmen, Dr Oreyemi Ifedayo, said the meeting was aimed at thoroughly reviewing the issues and charting a clear course toward restoring unity, peace, and credibility within the association.

He confirmed that more than 200 delegates have verified their attendance.

Earlier, the Committee of Past Presidents met and recommended the reversal of all disqualifications to ensure fairness and a level playing field for all aspirants.

According to the NMA constitution, the committee’s interpretations on such matters are considered final.

However, Ifedayo expressed concern that previous interventions have been ignored by the NMA president, Bala Audu, warning that the current situation could escalate into chaos if not urgently addressed.

Delegates are hopeful that the outcome of Wednesday’s meeting will resolve the impasse and restore stability within the association.
