This is part of their corporate social responsibilities to different communities in the country.

The solar-powered borehole and treatment plant is expected to address the acute water shortage in Enugu due to the absence of public water supply and the complex soil formation.

The borehole, which is powered by solar panels and a 10kva inverter, will provide the school community easy access to potable water and reduce waterborne diseases.

The borehole is fully equipped with 4 units of G-PEE tanks with 10,000 litres capacity each, and 8 dispensing points that will adequately serve the school and the community.

In his welcome address, the chief Upstream Investment officer of the NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services,  Mr. Bala Wunti, who was represented by Mrs. Joy Eguahon said, the project was part of efforts to mitigate various identified gaps.

He noted that the projects aligned with sustainable development goals(SDGs), adding that, the partners would continue to champion the implementation of SDGs.

The managing director of TotalEnergies Upstream, Mr. Mike Sangster, who was represented by general manager, CSR, TotalEnergies EP Nigeria, Mrs. Kenechi Esomeju, expressed his delight at the successful completion and commissioning of the water supply project which would make available public treated water to the beneficiary community.

He disclosed that the water borehole project is a non-chemical containerised treatment plant that will deliver 40,000 litres of water per day.

“The water treatment plant installation is a non-chemical containerised treatment plant. It has a capacity of delivering 40,000 litres of treated water per day which it sends to four 10,000 G-Pee tanks with eight dispensing points,” he stressed.

Sangster also explained that his company commenced a robust plan to deploy CSR infrastructure development across the country in 2016.

He revealed that this resulted in a strategy to deliver 84 infrastructure projects across the six geo-political zones of the country.

“In the 1st Phase, a total of 33 projects were launched in 2017 in the areas of education, health, capacity building and access to water across the country. In the 2nd Phase another 24 projects were launched in 2018 and yet another 27 projects were launched in 2019 in our 3rd Phase.

“Of the 84 infrastructure projects, 54 have already been completed and commissioned from the earlier three phases and 8 have now been completed and are currently being commissioned this November,” he said.

OML 130 partners include; NNPC Limited, TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited, PRIME (formerly Petrobras), Sapetro and CNOOC.
