The Niger State Government has refuted circulating reports from certain blogs alleging that the state’s Liquor and Licensing Board has imposed a ban on alcohol sales in nine Local Government Areas, including Suleja.

The government stressed that Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, deeply engrossed in launching and overseeing numerous people-centric projects across the state, has not issued any such directive.

According to the Governor, the Liquor and Licensing Board is yet to be established under his administration. Hence, no directives of this nature could emanate from a board that is yet to be constituted.

“In light of the above, His Excellency, the Farmer Governor, has directed security agents to arrest the self-appointed Secretary of this board by name Mohammed Ibrahim and to understand the motives of the imposter and the reasons behind the pronouncement.

“We invite the good public and our friends in the media to ignore any such pronouncements and to, henceforth, seek clarification from known government officials who are authorised to speak for the state and government,” the statement read.
